What Tamahagane Upgrades

Tamahagane feeds the sword lane at the Spirit Mirror — specifically the final upgrade levels where Iron and Tempered Iron (鍛鉄) are no longer enough. Sword levels raise attack, Issen and Oni Armament power (materials hub). The sword lane is the reason the upgrade economy escalates: Iron → Tempered Iron → Whetstone → Tamahagane.

Where to Find Tamahagane

• Hidden chests (Oni Vision): the main source. Unlock Oni Vision: Treasures and Oni Vision: Search Range and pulse it constantly while exploring — Tamahagane chests are almost always hidden ones (gamingpromax).
• Story-tied chests: several Tamahagane sit in story-area chests.
• Hidden-treasure chests: the 5 treasure-map chests can pay Tamahagane (e.g. 1 Tamahagane + 1 Fine Silk Cloth + 2 Power Stones in one of them — gameshorizon).
• Yorimasa's monument: its expanded late-game inventory stocks limited Tamahagane — a fallback for the last levels (gamingpromax).

How Many You Need

All 25 — the Dressed to Kill trophy requires fully enhancing every equipment piece, and the sword's final tiers (roughly the last two levels per guide descriptions) each consume Tamahagane. If you fall short after exploring, re-verify hidden chests with Oni Vision and check Yorimasa's expanded stock before finishing the run (NG+ note: equipment upgrades reset, but nothing is permanently missable).

Saving and Spending Tips

• Do not spend Tamahagane on mid-level sword tiers — Iron/Tempered Iron cover those; reserve Tamahagane for the final levels.
• Prioritize the sword you actually fight with; the trophy maxes every piece, but convenience comes from your main blade first.
• Pair the hunt with Fine Silk Cloth (also 25, for clothing) — the two runs share the same hidden-chest routes.
